L3Harris Technologies and Air Tractor have delivered the first OA-1K Skyraider II—a rugged, mission-flexible aircraft designed to give U.S. special operations forces a decisive edge across a spectrum of conflict. Built to support close air support, precision strikes, and armed ISR, the Skyraider II is engineered to thrive in challenging environments, including rough, remote airfields where high-end jets can’t easily operate.

The aircraft’s modular design and low operating cost make it a strategic fit for today’s unpredictable security landscape. Its versatility ensures special operations forces can respond rapidly to emerging threats while supporting broader national defense priorities. “The Skyraider II reflects L3Harris’ commitment to delivering cost-effective, adaptable solutions that meet the evolving needs of the warfighter,” said Jon Rambeau, President of Integrated Mission Systems at L3Harris.

Air Tractor, the platform’s original manufacturer, echoed the milestone. “We stand ready to meet the future needs and to ensure this airframe aligns with the expectations of U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command,” said company president Jim Hirsch. Their partnership underpins a platform that blends proven airframe ruggedness with advanced mission systems.

L3Harris confirmed that additional deliveries are on track, as the Skyraider II begins its operational journey with U.S. and allied forces. With its blend of adaptability, persistence, and affordability, the aircraft is positioned to become a valuable tool for special operations in both current conflicts and those on the horizon.
